HempWood® is a carbon-negative, plant-based alternative to regular parquet flooring. HempWood® captures a high volume of CO2, approximately 1.62 tons of CO2 per ton of hemp stalks.
This makes HempWood® a clean, healthy, extremely durable replacement for regular wood.
Since it does not use any added formaldehyde, it does not emit any VOCs, thus avoiding off-gassing. It is 20% harder than oak, and can be converted from hemp seed to HempWood® in merely 120 days. This as opposed to regular trees that have to grow 50-100 years before being cut down. HempWood® can in this way contribute to avoiding deforestation.
HempWood® uses the stems of 3-4 meter high industrial hemp plants, crushes and compresses them into a solid block and uses a soya-based adhesive instead of formaldehyde-based to keep the hemp stalks together. The HempWood® block is cut up length-wise into 4mm thick slices and attached to the FSC certified poplar plywood base.
The result is HempWood® Organic Flooring. The flooring boards are installed using a tongue and groove system, and the surface of the boards are finished with high-quality Bona Traffic HD coating.
Thanks to the combination of its durability (hardness & hard-wearing) and its sustainability (carbon-negative) it is suitable for both commercial and residential projects.
